Doula’s Hands
My doula’s hands are big and strong
I feel pain, they bring comfort
I feel pressure, they bring relief
I feel trembling, they bring calm.
Spreading, like the warm sun
Across my bare, cold skin-
My doula’s hands are here.
My doula’s voice is low and smooth.
I feel fear, she speaks understanding.
I feel panic, she speaks serenity.
I feel turmoil, she speaks peace.
Flowing, like calm cool rivers
Cascading over the turbulence of my soul-
My doula’s voice is here.
My doula’s smile is warm and ever present.
I question, her smile reflects the answer already in my heart.
I seek, her smile is my reward.
I falter, her smile is my encouragement.
Embracing, like moist air warm and soft
On a summer morn—
My doula’s smile is here.
I can do this.
I am a woman and I am meant to
shine in this moment like a star
on a wonder-filled night.
My heart is overflowing.
My womb is now empty.
My arms are now full.
